Before you go any further, I would first like
to tell you a little bit about myself.
My name is Jay Conners and I have been working
in the mortgage industry for more than fifteen
years as a branch manager and as a loan officer,
having followed in the footsteps of my father
and my grandfather. I was recently married to
my wife Allison, in June of 2004, and we live
in Pennsylvania with our two cats MacArthur and
Macy.
I am currently a partner in a lead generation company running a mortgage leads web site called Callprospect.com and an insurance leads web site known as USprospect.com.
My journey into this venture started nearly four
and a half years ago when I was working for a
mortgage company in Philadelphia.
Have you ever felt
the pain of losing money to a mortgage lead company?
Well I certainly had, and it was very frustrating.
Although I had some success with mortgage lead
companies, the majority of them seemed to be bogus,
selling me leads that were recycled or outdated,
and then giving me such lame excuses such as "we
don’t sell leads we sell opportunity"
Give me a break!
Then one day, while sipping coffee at the Dunkin
Donuts up the street from our office, an associate
of mine suggested to me that we begin collecting
our own leads. The timing could not have been
more perfect, and after about ten seconds of serious
thinking, I was sold on the idea, and our venture
together had begun.
Getting
off the ground
We approached this venture from the view point
of it being a hobby as opposed to a job. This
approach seemed to lift some of the pressure off
of us and allowed us to have fun with it, and
make it very exciting and very interesting.
In time our hard work and research began to produce
results, and although we didn't’t have many leads
in the beginning, it was enough to keep us busy,
make a little bit of money, and most of all, it
motivated us to keep going.
As time rolled on, more and more leads started
to roll in, to the point where we had more leads
than we knew what to do with. It was at this time
that the next step became obvious to us. We would
begin to sell our mortgage leads on line. We even started to look at types of leads other than residential mortgage leads - commercial mortgage leads and credit repair leads.
Learning
to fly
In the beginning, I have to tell you, it was tough,
and very discouraging. And this is the reason:
When we spoke with prospective clients at mortgage
companies and independent loan officers, we seemed
to be always confronted with the same opening
statement, "I
have lost money to lead companies in the past"
then followed by the question "what
makes you different from other lead companies?"

So once again we found ourselves back at Dunkin
Donuts brainstorming for ways to meet this new
challenge.
It occurred to us that we in no way invented the
mortgage lead business, but we had the ability
to take some what of a different approach, and
that approach would benefit the customer.
In short we designed a unique filter system to
be added to our web site that allowed our customers
to be in complete control of their money and their
leads at all times. It gave them the power to
set up their own spending limits according to
their budget, and they were given the ability
to shut their filters off, to prevent spending
over the weekend, on holidays, or while they were
on vacation.
We soon began to see ourselves as advocates in
the mortgage industry, which brings us to this
